UNFILTERED RESOLUTIONS.

I can't believe we're more than half-way through January...already! It feels like we were just drinking champagne and toasting to the new year and now it's almost February! Am I right?

Last year around this time I shared my fashion resolutions for 2015Originally I was going to do the same again this year but I decided to get a little bit more...real. I could tell you that my fashion resolutions are to shop local, purchase investment pieces and introduce color back into my wardrobe (the last one is debatable-ha) but, the resolutions I really want to work on for 2016 are a bit more unfiltered.

A few months ago I sat down with a girl who was interested in starting a blog. During our coffee date she asked me what I disliked the most about being a fashion blogger. At the time I couldn't really think of anything, I mean there are some serious perks! But, as I think about the past year I'd say my least favorite part about being a blogger was not fully enjoying the opportunities I was given. I was always so focused on trying to create a brand and operate my blog similarly to the "top Bloggers" in the industry, that I didn't allow myself to enjoy my experiences.

Don't get me wrong, I love blogging and of course social media (I literally live on Instagram and Snapchat), but sometimes I feel like I've allowed social media to take over my life.

I've gone to tons of events and spoken with a countless fashion influencers but I haven't really made connections or enjoyed the events as much as I would've liked because I was always so focused on covering the event for my blog or getting pictures for my social media accounts that I didn't stop to enjoy the event or even hang out with my industry friends.

And, if that's not bad enough, I'd spend the entire event worrying about getting content and pictures for my blog and then, nine times out of ten I wouldn't even blog about the event that I stressed over because I didn't think the pictures I took were "good enough." I can't tell you how many albums I have on my laptop of events I've never blogged about because I over analyzed the pictures, compared them to the "bigger Bloggers" and convinced myself that they weren't good enough.

Seriously, WTF.

Creating a brand and building a name for yourself is important but what good is it to create something that you don't even allow yourself to enjoy? One of my biggest resolutions for 2016 is to allow myself to simply enjoy moments. To enjoy life and to not always look for Instagramable moments but to actually hangout with my colleagues and industry friends at events instead of only focusing on "getting the content." I want to fully enjoying each and every moment I'm blessed with and not let my drive to create a brand stop me from living.

What are your unfiltered resolutions for 2016? If they're too personal, you can share your fashion resolutions instead. ;)

  1. This is a great post! My 2015 resolutions were very similar. "Live in the moment." Shocking, I think I had much better and stronger content once I let go. I think I didn't have content as often, but it was so much more authentic, I loved it. Good luck!

  2. I totally understand this. As a blogger, it is easy to go to all of these great events, but be so caught up in capturing it, that you don't really fully capture the moment yourself (in your head).

  3. Okay, seriously: your photos are always AMAZING!! I can't imagine any of your photos not looking stunning! There are always so many great events to cover in town; I hope you fully get to ENJOY them all this year - and go easier on yourself in the process ;-) Here's to a fun 2016 ahead!

  4. Ah Britt! I totally get this. I LOVE Instagram. I'm not a blogger, but I see this often - social media taking over rather than actually enjoying the moment. I've loved getting to know you and I couldn't have had you just kept your head down creating an illusion-ary life. :-) Thanks for keeping it real, and no matter what, your work is quality, and I do love the thought you put into your content. Bring it 2016!!! P - you and Wildfire's biggest fan. LOL
