review: kayne west x adidas

Yesterday evening Kanye West and Adidas Originals deputed their joint Fall '15 collection at New York Fashion Week and Instagram went crazy. People were regramming pictures from the show and praising Yeezy on an epic production and the whole time I was wondering, are they serious? What about this show was epic other than the A-list front row?

Curious, I went to Style.com to see the collection in its entirety and to see what I was missing but from the look of it, it seems I was spot on.

The men’s collection featured distressed military inspired pieces such as vests, knits and a muted color palette of nude, military green, grey and black. The women’s collection was a mix of sheer leggings, body suits, "crop top" bras and flesh colored underwear.

After seeing the full collection I was left to wonder, who is wearing this? According to West, the collection is a “solutions-based” clothing line. “I don’t want the clothes to be the life, I want the clothes to help the life.” Interesting. I'm not quite sure how wearing a distressed sweater and seamless underwear helps life but I imagine the concept is so genius that only Kanye can comprehend *sighs*.

Overall, there were a few standout outerwear pieces that I enjoyed but although I applaud West for pushing the boundaries, I am not a fan. I certainly can't imagine the average consumer purchasing or wearing much of anything from the line. Let alone spending thousands of dollars on something that looks like it was thrifted.

I imagine those who attended the show, witnessed an epic presentation but as for the clothing itself, I am not impressed. However, to slightly contradict myself, Kayne's wife Kim Kardashin West attended the show dressed head-to-toe in the Yeezy collaboration and I thought she looked fab! I'm curious to see how celebs like Rihanna, Rita Ora, Cassie and possibly Beyonce rock the look.

  3. Wow, very strange stuff!! It is hard to imagine who's wearing it. Though that's the case with a lot of "high" fashion!
