A TOURIST IN MY OWN CITY.

When I was in high school I wanted nothing more than to move out of Portland. I was convinced that there was nothing going on here and that if I ever wanted a career in fashion I would have to move. Though that last statement is still debatable, the first is definitely not true.

I'm not sure if it's because of all the new people moving to Portland or if I was just oblivious to everything going on before, but there's literally so much stuff happening in Portland creative-wise it's crazy. I've lived in Portland 25 years and still learn about new creative groups, boutiques, designers and events that have been in existence for years that I knew nothing about.

Last summer I moved into an office in the Downtown Pearl area. When I got tired of staring at my laptop I would randomily roam around the Pearl and explore. It didn't take long for what started off as a break from the office to turn into weekends of exploring different parts of town. In a sense, I became a tourist in my own city.

Although I'm planning to do a lot traveling in the near future and at some point I'd like to move, I've learned to love and appreciate Portland. And truthfully, I'm not so eager to leave as I was before. I still have a lot of exploring to do.
